Clinical Division of Cardiology
Website: emodinamica.policlinico.pa.it

Intensive Coronary Care Unit ICU:  8 Coronary Care Unit beds
Sub-intensive Coronary Care Unit CCU: 4 Sub-Coronary Care Unit beds
Cardiological ward: 10 Cardiological beds
Ambulatory Cardiology Unit ACU: available in large spaces

Treated cardiological diseases
Ischemic cardiac disease (acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina), rhythm cardiac disturbances (A-V block, atrial fibrillation, parossistical ventricular tachycardia), chronic heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, cardiogenic shock, acute pulmonary edema, pericarditis, myocarditis, pulmonary embolism.
Invasive Facilities and Investigations
Two Interventional Cardiology Catheterization Laboratories are present and fully equipped with the most recent technologies for coronary and structural cardiology invasive procedures
Left diagnostic investigations: coronary angiography, left ventricular angiography, aortography, angiography of epi-aortic trunks, angiography of the large arteries, angiography of the district cerebral circles, angiography of the peripheral arteries.
Right diagnostic heart catheterization: angiography of the venous and pulmonary system.
Physiological coronary assessment: intracoronary imaging Intra Vascular Ultra-Sound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR).
Therapeutic coronary Interventions: coronary angioplasty with plain balloon (POBA), coronary angioplasty with implant of bare metal stent (BMS) or drug eluting stents (DES), of simple and complex lesions (chronic total occlusions, left main and bifurcations), coronary angioplasty with rotational atherectomy (Rotablator) or shockwave for calcified lesions, percutaneous insertion of assistance devices intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) and IMPELLA, pericardiocentesis.
Therapeutic structural interventions: transcatheter aortic valve implantion (TAVI), patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, atrial septal defect (ASD) closure, left atrial appendage (LLA) closure.
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Cardiac elettrophysiological interventions: elettrophysiological studies, temporary and permanent Pace-Maker (PM) implantation, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT).

Non-Invasive Facilities and Investigations
Ambulatory Cardiology Unit: diagnostic and follow-up assessment of coronary artery disease, ischemic cardiomyopathy, microvascular dysfunction, valvulopathy, arterial hypertension, chronic heart failure, cardiological rehabilitation.
Cardiac Investigations: Resting 12-lead ECG, treadmill stress ECG, 24/48 hour Holter monitoring, 24/48 hour arterial blood pressure Holter monitoring (ABPM), 2D-3D transthoracic echocardiography (TEE), 2D transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), exercise stress 2D-echocardiography.
